The first movie in the new DC Universe, directed by James Gunn.
The trailer for the first theatrical movie in the new DC Universe, "Superman," has been released. The director and screenwriter is James Gunn, who made a surprise move to DC after leading the successful "Guardians of the Galaxy" series at Marvel, and became head of DC Studios after working on "The Suicide Squad: The Ultimate Villain" (2021).
As Superman falls into the snowy region, covered in wounds, we see his life on Earth as Clark Kent cuts in. He wears dull glasses and shows us his daily life working at the newspaper Daily Planet, and his bond with his foster father Jonathan in Kansas. When Superman, who has fallen in the snow, whistles, something comes running at high speed. Its true identity is his pet dog, Krypto.
After Superman saves people in Metropolis and the genius inventor Lex Luthor glares at Superman from his company, Luthor Corp, we see Superman smashing the glass cage he's trapped in, and children holding flags with the letter "S" on them, praying for the hero's arrival.
Shockingly, this time Superman seems to be hated by the townsfolk. He's yelled at and has trash thrown at him...but he still looks determined. Guy Gardner/Green Lantern and Hawkgirl also make appearances, and even a giant monster appears...?
David Corenswet has been selected to play the new Superman/Clark Kent. Rachel Brosnahan plays Lois Lane, known as Superman's lover, and Nicholas Hoult plays Lex Luthor, Superman's greatest enemy. Guy Gardner will be played by Nathan Fillion, a regular in James Gunn's films, and Hawkgirl will be played by Isabella Merced, who also starred in "Alien: Romulus."
"This project is so much more than just a new movie to me," Gunn said in a message ahead of the release of the trailer. "This film is a human story about being a hero in a world where it's hard to be one. I can't wait to show you the heart and action that this film is full of, as well as the incredible performances of David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, and the rest of the cast."
The first film in the new DC Universe, "Superman," is scheduled to be released in the U.S. on July 11, 2025. It will be released in Japan in the summer of 2025.
